Quick Kicks: Badgers stay home for two


MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s soccer team will continue its homestand against Illinois on Sept. 19 and Minnesota Sept. 22. The games are set for 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the McClimon Soccer Complex. Admission is free.

Here are five things to know:

1. SCOUTING THE FIGHTING ILLINI: Wisconsin last met with Illinois in the 2023 campaign on the road. UW came out on top, 1-0, after scoring in the last minute of the game.

Illinois dropped its Big Ten opener 1-0 against conference leader, Minnesota. Although the score remained even for the majority of the match Illinois was unable to stop the game-winning goal in the 89th minute. 

Illinois carries a 4-3-1 overall record, entering the second week of conference play with 0 points.

2. SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS: The Badgers face another the Big Ten competitor as Minnesota travels across state lines.

The Golden Gophers hold a 7-0-1 record this season. This is the first time Minnesota has gone undefeated through eight games since 2008.

Minnesota most recently silenced Illinois, 1-0. The Golden Gophers will face the Michigan Wolverines at home before squaring up with the Badgers.

Golden Gophers forward Khyah Harper leads the Big Ten in goals with nine on the campaign.

3. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin fell 1-0 to Rutgers in their first Big Ten matchup of the season.

The game remained scoreless throughout the first half with the Badgers leading in shots (6-2) and corners (4-3).

In contrast to the first half both teams had equal possession throughout the second 45 minutes. However, Rutgers was able to capitalize in the 79th minute shooting one into the back of the net.

Although the Badgers were unable to score, they had the statistical advantage with shots (9-7), shots-on-goal (4-3), and corners (6-5).

5. UP NEXT: UW will head to the West Coast to face No. 22 UCLA on Thursday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 9:00 p.m. (CT).
