Dawgs Bag Two In First Half, Hand New Mexico State First Loss

SEATTLE – Washington took the lead eight minutes into Sunday’s matchup with New Mexico State and never looked back, handing the Aggies their first loss of the season.
 
Samiah Shell got the Dawgs on the board early, scoring for the second match running, while Ioanna Papatheodorou also bagged her second of the season to lead the Huskies to victory at Husky Soccer Stadium.
 
The Huskies came right at the Aggies as soon as the whistle sounded and jumped ahead less than eight minutes in as Kelsey Branson’s rebound was pounced on by Shell, firing the ball into the vacant goal.

 
About eight minutes later, the Dawgs had their second as Tatum Thomason slipped a ball forward to Papatheodorou, who slipped her shot past the charging keeper and hit the side netting.

 
The Huskies pushed for a 3rd throughout the second half, coming closest in the 80th minute…
