Liverpool reject Caoimhin Kelleher cash plus player offer

Liverpool have rejected a cash plus player offer from Nottingham Forest for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, a report has revealed.

The Reds have added to their goalkeeping ranks this summer, signing Giorgi Mamardashvili before loaning the Georgian back to Valencia until the end of the season.

Mamardashvili, 23, is expected to succeed Alisson as Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper when the time comes for the Brazilian to leave Anfield, further limiting the chances of Kelleher, who has operated as the club’s cup goalkeeper for a number of years.

The Athletic report that Nottingham Forest offered Liverpool cash plus United States international goalkeeper Matt Turner in exchange for Kelleher, but the offer was turned down as it didn’t come anywhere close to the Reds’ £25m to £30m valuation.

Kelleher, who has two years remaining on his contract and is the Republic of Ireland’s first choice goalkeeper, has previously admitted that he wants to play regular first-team football – something that hasn’t been afforded to him throughout his time at the club.

He did make 26 appearances in all competitions last season – including 10 in the Premier League – when covering for Alisson when he picked up an injury, but was back on the bench as soon as the former Roma stopper was fit.

Liverpool have also signed Italian forward Federico Chiesa this summer, but the majority of the club’s transfer business has revolved around outgoings.

Thiago and Joel Matip left the club in June after their contracts expired, while youngsters Fabio Carvalho, Bobby Clark and Sepp van den Berg have all departed on permanent deals. Stefan Bajcetic is also expected to leave on loan, reuniting with Clark and former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders at Austrian giants Salzburg.
