Brentford accept Ivan Toney offer as personal terms agreed

Brentford have accepted a bid from Al Ahli for striker Ivan Toney, who has agreed personal terms with the Saudi Arabian side.

Toney, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract, has not played for Brentford this season because of the transfer uncertainty surrounding him.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are among the clubs to have been linked with a move for Toney but, as first revealed by L’Equipe and later backed up by numerous outlets, it is Al Ahli who have struck a deal to sign the 28-year-old.

Al Ahli have agreed a fee of €42m (£35.3m) with Brentford and quickly struck a deal on personal terms with Toney, who is expected to undergo medical tests.

Interestingly, Al Ahli have also agreed both a fee and personal terms to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who has not yet given his approval to the move as he awaits an improved offer from fellow suitors Chelsea.

Chelsea had been linked with Toney as a possible alternative to Osimhen, and could yet turn to the England international if the Nigerian heads to the Middle East – Fabrizio Romano reports that only one player will be signed by Al Ahli.

That’s because the Saudi big spenders only have space to register one more foreign player in their squad. Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, Roger Ibanez, Franck Kessie, Edouard Mendy, Gabri Veiga and Merih Demiral take up seven of the eight available senior spots, with summer signing Alexsander included as one of the two extra foreign players under 21 years of age.

To sign both Osimhen and Toney, Al Ahli would have to offload one of their current crop of overseas talents.
