Bjornsson Earns ACC Offensive Player of the Week Honors

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke men’s soccer sophomore forward Ulfur Bjornsson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Bjornsson joins Syracuse Orange goalkeeper Tomas Hut as the first weekly award winner for the 2024 season.

Bjornsson, the 6-foot-3 forward from Hafnarfjordur, Iceland, tallied nine points during the Blue Devils opening weekend matchups in California. In the season opener against San Diego, Bjornsson had a part in both goals that Duke scored, assisting on Jose Ortega‘s first career goal, before slotting a 30-yard blast into the top right corner to give the lead.

The sophomore forward followed up his three-point night, recording a six-point performance against UC San Diego on Sunday. Bjornsson notched his second career hat trick, scoring all three goals by the 67th minute. Entering the second week of the season, Bjornsson is tied for the national lead in goals with four and leads the ACC.

Duke is back in action on Friday evening as they host Grand Canyon at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Admission is free, and the match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
