CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) –
The 2024 ACC women’s soccer season gets underway Thursday, with all 17 league programs in action. Thursday’s matches mark the first contests of the ACC’s 2024-25 regular-season athletics calendar.
The ACC kicks off the season with seven teams in the Top 25 of the Preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll, tying for the most in the nation. A nation-best five ACC teams are in the top 10, as Florida State and Stanford lead the way at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Clemson opens the year at No. 5, Pitt is No. 7 and North Carolina tied for No. 8. Notre Dame is No. 15 and Duke rounded out the ACC contingent at No. 24. Virginia and Wake Forest begin the year receiving votes.
In the annual Preseason ACC Coaches Poll, FSU was projected first with 15 first-place votes, while Stanford finished second with the final two first-place votes. Notre Dame placed third, North Carolina landed fourth and Clemson rounded out the top five.
The Preseason All-ACC Team featured 12 student-athletes, as 2023 ACC Freshman of the Year Jordynn Dudley of Florida State and Pitt’s Sarah Schupansky are the lone returners on the preseason team who were named All-ACC First Team a season ago. Second-Team members Kat Rader (Duke), Taylor Huff (Florida State), Leah Klenke (Notre Dame) and Maggie Cagle (Virginia) landed on the preseason team, while third-team honoree Deborah Abiodun (Pitt) also earned a spot. The rest of the preseason team consisted of Teagan Wy (California), Heather Gilchrist (Florida State), Jasmine Aikey (Stanford), Elise Evans (Stanford) and Lia Godfrey (Virginia).
