Gareth Southgate addresses his future amid Man United interest

Arsenal make contact with Joshua Zirkzee agents regarding summer move

England manager Gareth Southgate has claimed that he is not likely to remain in charge of the Three Lions if his team fails to win the Euro this summer.

This month’s tournament in Germany will mark Southgate’s fourth as manager of England.

It comes after he guided England to the 2021 European Championship final at Wembley, where the team lost on penalties, as well as to the World Cup semifinals in 2018 and 2022 quarterfinals.

Since Southgate’s current contract expires in December, there is increasing speculation that this may be his last tournament with England.

The Three Lions boss has been linked with the Manchester United job as the Red Devils plan to replace Erik ten Hag.

Southgate, in conversation with BILD, has hinted that he could be soon ready for a new challenge.

‘If we don’t win, I probably won’t be here anymore. Therefore, it might be the last chance,’ Southgate said.

‘I think around half the national coaches leave after a tournament – that’s the nature of international football.

‘I’ve been here for almost eight years now and we’ve come close. You can’t constantly put yourself in front of the public and say, “A little more please”, because at some point people lose faith.

England manager Gareth Southgate has been linked to the Man United job.

‘If we want to be a great team and I want to be a top coach, you must deliver in big moments.’

England are one of the hot favourites to win the Euro this season as some of their players are in the best form of their life.

Harry Kane, Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice all performed exceptionally well for their clubs last season.

Gareth Southgate can guide England to European glory

This could be Southgate’s best chance of winning a trophy and ending England’s drought that has been going on since 1966, when they won the World Cup.

In terms of resources available at his disposal, Southgate is fortunate to have a number of options to choose from.

Players like Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish failed to make a place in the England squad for the Euro this summer, which suggests the quality of the squad and the options available.

Southgate should ignore the noise about rumours of Man United interest and put all his focus on success with England.
