Man Utd to sign member of Arsenal’s backroom staff as part of rebuild

Manchester United are set to bring in physio Jordan Reece from Arsenal, according to a report.

Reece is in line to become the second member of Arsenal’s medical team to swap the Emirates Stadium for Old Trafford in recent years, following in the footsteps of the Gunners’ former head of medical services Gary O’Driscoll.

The Athletic report that Reece is closing in on a deal to join United, though his arrival in Manchester is not seen as a reaction to the club’s crisis throughout the 2023/24 season in which there were over 60 isolated cases of players missing out on matches due to injury.

Instead, Reece is in line to replace United’s ex-head physio Robin Sadler, who left the club back in January.

Reece has been at Arsenal since 2012, initially joining as a physio for the club’s youth teams. Having worked his way through the ranks, he became a physio for the senior side in 2018 and since 2020 has served as their medical director of physiotherapy.

While Reece is expected to be onboarded in the near future, no decision has yet been made over United manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman’s job was always expected to be reviewed at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, and reports last week claimed he was to be sacked by the club’s new INEOS shareholders. However, winning the FA Cup, surprisingly seeing off Manchester City in the final, may have thrown a spanner in the works and it is possible he stays.

United have been linked with the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi in recent weeks. However, former coach Kieran McKenna will not be returning to the club after signing a new contract at Ipswich Town.
