Locomotive Sign Bence Pavkovics for 2023

May 14, 2024 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)
El Paso Locomotive FC News Release

VICTORY SECURED – El Paso Locomotive FC secured its first win of the season last Friday, finding the back of the net twice to shutout Loudoun United FC. The win snapped a 10-game winless streak across all competitions (nine in league play).

UNDEFEATED VS LOUDOUN – With the win, El Paso upheld its perfect record against Loudoun (3-0-0).

TUMI TIME – No player shined greater at Loudoun than forward Tumi Moshobane. The South African put on a stellar performance to guide Locomotive to victory, finding the net 42 seconds after the opening whistle before setting up Eric Calvillo for the eventual game winner.

It was Moshobane’s first goal and assist for El Paso and it was the first time since July 23, 2022 that he recorded a goal and an assist in single match (San Diego Loyal 2-1 win vs Rio Grande Valley FC). It was the sixth time Moshobane had done so in his career (fourth time in the USL Championship).

GOALSCORERS – Moshobane and Calvillo found the back of the net at Loudoun, bringing the total number of Locomotive goal scorers this season to six. The other four include Amando Moreno (3), Justin Dhillon (1), Javier Nevarez (1), and Joaquin Rivas (1).

FIRST SHUTOUT – Goalkeeper Jahmali Waite has been one of Locomotive’s key figures so far this season, repeatedly stepping up in net to keep games tight. With help from the Locomotive backline, the Jamaican international made three big saves at Loudoun to secure his first clean sheet of the year.

SHUTTING IT DOWN – Since shifting to his more natural central midfield role in the 4-4-2 , Bolu Akinyode showed why he’s widely regarded as one of the league’s top defensive players. Against Loudoun, Akinyode went 8/8 in tackles, 14/14 in duels, recovered possession eight times, made three clearances, blocked two shots and intercepted one attempt. It was a masterclass in stifling offensive play and arguably the best performance by any Locomotive player on the night.

TEAM OF THE WEEK TAKEOVER – Based on their performances in the win against Loudoun, four Locos were named to the USL Championship Team of the Week – Week 10: Bolu Akinyode, Eric Calvillo, Tumi Moshobane and Jahmali Waite. Read more.

NEXT MATCH – El Paso Locomotive returns to Southwest University Park for its sole home match in May. Los Locos host Memphis 901 FC on Friday, May 17 with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.
