Seattle Sounders FC News Release
RENTON, WASH. – Following a 0-0 draw with the LA Galaxy on Sunday, Seattle Sounders FC turns its attention to the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, hosting USL Championship side Louisville City FC in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, May 8 at Starfire Stadium (7:30 p.m. PT / USOpenCup.com, 950 KJR AM).
Wednesday’s fixture marks the first time the two sides have met up in a competitive match. Seattle has previously hosted Louisville City FC in a preseason friendly prior to the 2023 season.
Defiance players Snyder Brunell, Osaze De Rosario, Kalani Kossa-Rienzi, Antino Lopez and Georgi Minoungou are all eligible for selection by Sounders FC Head Coach Brian Schmetzer for the fixture.
Sounders FC has won the U.S. Open Cup four times (2009-2011, 2014) in franchise history, tied for the most among MLS clubs (Sporting Kansas City, Chicago Fire).
Should Seattle advance past Louisville, it would host the winner of the North Carolina FC vs. Phoenix Rising FC match that is also being played on Wednesday.
Following Wednesday’s matchup, Seattle faces its Cascadia rival Portland Timbers on Sunday, May 12 at Providence Park (1:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, FOX, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
