DURHAM – The Duke women’s soccer program presented its end-of-the-season awards for the 2023 campaign recently. The Blue Devils gave out seven awards to seven different student-athletes, which were voted on by the players.
Sophomore Carina Lageyre was named the winner of the Team MVP award, after starting all 15 matches she played. One of the top midfielders in the nation, Lageyre posted a brace at Boston College to lead Duke to a 2-0 victory on the road, while adding four assists on the year as well. Lageyre, who hails from Cooper City, Fla., earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts at the Eagles.
Taking home Most Valuable Offensive Player was sophomore Kat Rader, who collected a team-best seven goals and 16 points to go along with two assists. She started all 16 matches and led the Blue Devils with three game-winning goals. Rader, who hails from Stuart, Fla., opened the season with goals in the first three matches against West Virginia, Southern California and Wisconsin. The two-time All-ACC selection added tallies versus East Carolina, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and North Carolina. Her goal against the top-ranked Tar Heels came with a minute remaining to tie the match.
Junior Baleigh Bruster was tabbed the Most Valuable Defensive Player. A native of Atlanta, Ga., Bruster started 14-of-15 matches on the backline and played 1,208 minutes. She helped lead Duke to five shutouts and played the full 90 minutes in seven matches.
Cameron Roller was presented with the Freshman of the Year award, after starting 10 of her 13 matches played as a rookie. She started the final eight contests and played the full 90 minutes in seven matches on the year. Roller, who is from Sherman, Texas, was tabbed the ACC All-Freshman team and helped the Blue Devils to five shutouts.
Receiving the Most Inspirational Player award was junior Dieynaba Ndaw. After earning her first collegiate start on the road at Virginia, Ndaw made the most of her opportunity by registering her first college goal in the second half during a 1-1 draw. The product of Dakar, Senegal started three of her 13 matches on the season and played a career-high 51 minutes during the match with the Cavaliers.
