PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers celebrated Earth Month this April with volunteer events around the city, working with the Kindness Farm, Friends of Trees, We Believe in Portland and SOLVE. Media assets of the four events can be found HERE .

The Timbers kicked off Earth Month with their Score A Goal, Plant A Tree (SAGPAT) initiative on April 6, planting over 80 trees in the Beaverton area. In partnership with Daimler Truck North America , Friends of Trees plants a tree in the Portland community for every Timbers goal scored through the SAGPAT program. Since the start of SAGPAT in 2011, the Timbers have planted over 4,000 trees. These trees and shrubs absorb carbon dioxide at a rate of 1.9M pounds a year, remove 513,600 pounds of pollutants each year and intercept over 25.4M gallons of storm water runoff to keep our rivers clean. On April 19, the Timbers attended the second annual We Believe in Portland event, a downtown Portland cleanup initiative in partnership with local nonprofit AdoptOneBlock. On Earth Day, April 22, the club supported SOLVE’s cleanup project in the blocks surrounding Providence Park. Both events saw local businesses come together to pick up trash off the streets of Portland and work towards a cleaner community.
