New Mexico United Announces 2023 Preseason Schedule

Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico United and the Somos Unidos Foundation are thrilled to announce the signings of Malcolm Starr, Marco Lara, Leonel Bencomo and Diego Sarabia to the New Mexico United Academy roster. The four players have already begun training with their academy teammates, and are eligible to participate in matches in the 2024 USL Academy season.

“Malcolm, Marco, Leo, and Diego are incredibly-talented, ambitious players who will bring depth to our side,” said United Academy Head Coach David Estrada. “These four have earned this opportunity by continually demonstrating hard work, humility, diligence, and action. We look forward to helping them grow and develop into the best versions of themselves, on and off the pitch.”

Starr is a defender from La Cueva High School and Rio Rapids Soccer Club. He is eighteen years old.

Lara is a 17-year old midfielder from Atrisco Heritage Academy in Albuquerque. He played club soccer with Rio Rapids.

Bencomo is a 17-year old forward from Rio Grande High School. He has played his club soccer with Guadalajara FC.

Sarabia is an 18-year old defender/midfielder from La Academia de Esperanza CS. He played his club soccer with New Mexico Rush.
