Former England boss Fabio Capello has urged Juventus to sign Mason Greenwood this summer as one of several new signings to help them compete with Inter Milan.

Capello, 77, has seen his former club Juventus trail 20 points behind Serie A‘s runaway leaders Inter this term, and they will struggle to match other European heavyweights in a financial battle for top players, so they must find another way.

He has named Greenwood – who is on loan at Getafe from Manchester United this season – among the names that the Italian club should seek in the transfer window.

Capello told Gazzetta: ‘I’ve heard about Greenwood. A Manchester United talent who has been affected by personal issues, but seems reborn at Getafe. There are no doubts about his qualities.’

The 22-year-old was charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive behaviour in October 2022, but the case against him was dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew.

Man United‘s internal investigation into the matter concluded that releasing him was not an option, but would instead seek a future for him away from Old Trafford, and he joined LaLiga side Getafe at the end of the summer transfer window.

Capello said Juventus would need ‘at least four quality signings’ to bridge the gap to Inter Milan, and implored them not to sell Gleison Bremer, Federico Chiesa or Dusan Vlahovic to other clubs.
