Souahy, Laszo, Portillo Named to USL Week 5 Team of the Week

FC Tulsa to Host Three Development Camps in 2023 for 6-14 Year Olds

TULSA – Multiple players made their way onto the score sheet and the USL’s Team of the Week as FC Tulsa finished the match with three goals.

FC Tulsa had a scoring-packed match against Phoenix Rising FC on April 5 during their first home match of the season.

Today, the USL Championship announced the Week 5 Team of the Week awarding three of FC Tulsa’s players the honors; Defender Alexis Souahy, Midfielder Edwin Laszo, and Midfielder Justin Portillo.

Midfielder Justin Portillo – The veteran midfielder notched two assists in Tulsa’s 3-3 draw with Phoenix Rising FC on Friday night while also completing 65 of 74 passes overall, notching four chances created and winning 2 of 3 tackles and 3 of 4 duels defensively.

Both of Portillo’s assists came off of outstanding corner kicks forcing both Laszo and Souahy to capitalize.

Defender Alexis Souahy – The Comoros international scored once, completed 42 of 47 passes and won 3 of 4 aerial duels while making two clearances, two interceptions and six recoveries in his side’s 3-3 draw with Phoenix Rising FC.

Souahy, who wears the captain’s arm-band was signed early February to the FC Tulsa roster reuniting with Head Coach Mario Sanchez.

Midfielder Edwin Laszo – The Colombian made a sparkling debut for his new club, scoring once and hitting the crossbar with a long-range effort while taking five shots overall and winning 3 of 4 tackles and 12 of 18 duels overall defensively.

Laszo scored the equalizing goal in Friday’s home opener making the score 2-2 as the second half was underway. The midfielder had only been with the team for about a week, making his first week and match with FC Tulsa one to remember.

GK – Jackson Lee, Rhode Island FC: The Australian recorded the first shutout in Rhode Island FC history with a six-save performance to earn a scoreless draw against the Charleston Battery at Beirne Stadium.

D – Shawn Smart, Las Vegas Lights FC: The 20-year-old right back scored the decisive goal as Las Vegas defeated San Antonio FC for the first time since 2019 while also completing 2 of 2 dribbles and winning 9 of 10 duels overall.
