Martinho to Head to Germany with U.S. U-20 Squad

DURHAM – Duke women’s soccer incoming freshman Lauren Martinho is one of 20 U.S. Under-20 Women’s Youth National Team players selected to travel to Germany from April 1-7 where they will play matches against Germany and Canada.

The U.S. will face Germany on Friday, April 5 at Sportclub Arena Verl, before taking on Canada on April 7 at Stadion Am Furlbach.  Both matches will be contested in Verl, Germany.

The camp is in preparation for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Colombia in September, for which the USA qualified last June at the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic.

Martinho, who hails from Cary, N.C., owns extensive experience representing the United States over her soccer career.  She recently saw action at the 2023 Pan American Games with the U-19 squad and played in the U-20 Concacaf in June of 2023.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2004, are age-eligible for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. For this trip, head coach Tracey Kevins selected 13 players born in 2004, five born in 2005 and two born in 2006.

Martinho is one of just two youth club players selected to travel with the U.S. squad.
