Austin FC Falls to C.F. Pachuca in International Friendly Match

Austin, TEXAS – Second half goals from Julio Cascante and Diego Rubio helped Austin FC win 2-1against FC Dallas on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium in the first Copa Tejas match of 2024. The sold-out attendance of 20,738 marked the 57th consecutive MLS home sellout for Austin, extending the league’s longest active streak.

Austin controlled possession and chances throughout the first half. Captain Sebastián Driussi took an early shot in the 2ndminute which just missed the net. Brad Stuver continued his strong run of form, making an early save in the 7th minute. The Verde & Black totaled seven (7) shots in the first half as they searched for an opening.

Early in the second half, Alex Ring hitting a powerful shot off the post to start the second half. Moments later, FC Dallas’s Eugene Ansah found a goal against the run of play in the 51st minute to give the visitors the lead.

Austin FC weren’t behind for long though, equalizing in the 54th minute as Julio Cascante found the back of the net for the second time this season. The Verde & Black then went ahead themselves in the 70th minute, when Driussi’s accurate cross found Diego Rubio in the box. The Chilean forward headed home from close range, and Austin effectively kept Dallas out for the remainder of the match to earn all three points.

With today’s starts Dani Pereira and Cascante each made their 100th appearance for Austin FC across all competitions, becoming the fifth and sixth centurions in the Club’s history.
