Chicago Red Stars Tie Orlando Pride 1-1, Remain Unbeaten

ORLANDO – The Chicago Red Stars remain unbeaten in their first three regular-season matches after a 1-1 draw with the Orlando Pride. Forward, Mallory Swanson, secured the draw for the club with a left-footed goal in the 64th minute of play. The Red Stars have next week off before returning to SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois to take on Angel City FC Saturday, April 13.

KEY MOMENTS:

21′ Orlando Pride’s, Angelina, delivers a ball from a corner kick toward the near post of Chicago’s goal. Chicago’s, Alyssa Naeher, comes out to punch the ball, but is bumped by a Pride player and the ball is tipped into the net to give the Pride the lead, 1-0 Orlando

30′ Chicago’s Ally Schlegel receives the ball at the top of Orlando’s 18-yard box takes a touch inside the box and takes a shot, but it goes straight to the keeper’s hands, 1-0 Orlando

62′ Mallory Swanson takes the ball herself up the right side of the pitch toward Orlando’s goal and takes a shot that is corralled by the keeper

64′ Chicago’s Jenna Bike finds Mallory Swanson in the box and the forward finds the back of the net with a left-footed shot, 1-1

75′ Orlando Pride take a number of shots inside Chicago’s 18-yard box that are saved by Alyssa Naeher and a couple of Red Stars defenders before the ball is cleared, 1-1

GAME NOTES:

Jenna Bike’s assist on Mallory Swanson’s goal is the forward’s first career assist

Swanson’s goal is her first during run of play since 2022. The forward had a goal in 2023 that came from a penalty kick before an injury kept her off the pitch for nearly a year

Chicago is 8-3-3 in regular-season play when Swanson scores a goal for the team

Rookies, Bea Franklin and Jameese Joseph, both made their NWSL debuts tonight becoming the 25th and 26th rookies in the league to debut so far this season

With the draw tonight, Chicago is now unbeaten through three matches, the first time since 2019 the club has gone unbeaten in the first three matches of the season
