International Duty: Herons Abroad in March International Window

During the March FIFA international window, six Inter Miami CF players represented the club abroad with their national teams in the Concacaf Nations League and international friendlies in preparation for the Copa América 2024 and the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games. Let’s take a look at how our players performed.

Drake Callender – USA

Inter Miami’s goalkeeper was called up to represent the USMNT in a run of two games at the Concacaf Nations League in which the team claimed their third consecutive title in the competition. The USMNT won 3-0 in semifinals against Jamaica on Thursday, March 21, followed by a 2-0 victory against Mexico in the Nations League final on Sunday, March 24 to be crowned champions.

David Ruiz – Honduras

Homegrown midfielder David Ruiz registered an appearance for Honduras in a crucial game against Costa Rica on Saturday, March 23. Ultimately, Los Catrachos fell 3-1 and missed out on a spot in the upcoming Copa América this summer. Ruiz came into the match as a second half substitute in minute 65 and played 32 minutes. He subsequently again featured as a substitute in the team’s second match this past international window, which resulted in a 1-1 draw in a friendly against longtime rival El Salvador on Tuesday, March 26.

Shanyder Borgelin – Haiti

Homegrown striker Shanyder Borgelin represented Haiti’s senior team for an international friendly game on the road against French Guiana on Saturday, March 23 that resulted in a 1-1 draw.

Diego Gómez – Paraguay

Inter Miami’s Paraguayan midfielder Diego Gómez was called up to play an international friendly match against Russia in Moscow in preparation for the Copa América 2024. The match was scheduled to be played on Monday, March 25, at the VTB Arena, but ultimately got canceled for safety reasons.

Federico Redondo – Argentina U-23

Federico Redondo was called up by Argentina’s U-23 side for a series of two friendlies against Mexico in preparation for the upcoming 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games. Argentina won 2-4 in the first game on Friday, March 22 with Redondo entering the game as a substitute in the 81st minute. The second match was played Monday, March 25 and ended in a 3-0 defeat for La Albiceleste, with the midfielder remaining an unused substitute in the game.
