Seattle Reign FC News Release
SEATTLE, WA. – Seattle Reign FC has extended defender Julia Lester’s contract through the 2025 NWSL season, the club announced today.
“I was so excited to join Seattle this past offseason and am even more thrilled to extend my time here,” said Lester. “Although I’ve only been with the team for a few months, it’s been an amazing experience playing with and learning from my teammates. I can’t wait to spend more time here and build a relationship with our supporters and community.”
The Reign acquired Lester through a three-team trade on January 24 that involved Racing Louisville FC and NJ/NY Gotham FC.
The Tampa, Florida, native is yet to make her debut for Seattle, but she’s currently in her third year in the NWSL and has totaled 33 regular season appearances for Racing over the past two seasons. During that span, Lester recorded the third-most clearances (81), interceptions (42) and blocks (22). Louisville previously claimed the NWSL playing rights of Lester before signing her to a two-year contract ahead of the 2022 season.
“Julia Lester has been a fantastic addition to the club. Her calm and consistent demeanor, coupled with her pace and defensive ability, make her a great fit for our team,” said Seattle Reign FC General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “Julia has quickly fit into the squad and we are really pleased to extend her contract through 2025.”
Prior to entering the NWSL in 2022, Lester spent two seasons playing for Apollon Ladies F.C. of the Cypriot First Division, where she earned Best XI honors in 2021 and helped the club win back-to-back league titles.
