Women’s Soccer Set to Travel Abroad to England & Scotland

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s soccer will be spending its Spring Break in Europe from March 8-17, visiting England and Scotland during a trip packed with sights and soccer.

Two exhibition matches are on tap for the Scarlet Knights against professional organizations in Europe. Rutgers will take on Everton in England and Rangers in Scotland.

“Everyone in our program feels immense gratitude for our upcoming foreign tour,” said head coach Mike O’Neill. “Without the support of our athletic director, Pat Hobbs, and several generous contributions, this trip of a lifetime wouldn’t be possible. Thank you to George Tsacnaris, Jeff Sinko, and Aaron Patel for their gifts, along with the many other donations that will make this trip special.”

“We are looking forward to immersion into the European culture, competing on the international stage, experiencing live matches, and adding depth to the relationships within our program,” O’Neill said. “As a coaching staff, we are so fortunate to be surrounded by such incredible people and we are really excited to be a part of making memories in England and Scotland.”

The Scarlet Knights’ first stop is London, where the team will take in Premier League and Champions League matches at Arsenal and Chelsea. RU will visit famous landmarks in London, including the Abbey Road Crossing, the London Eye, and the Thames. Rutgers will experience a training session with the coaching staff at Chelsea and a match against Everton before heading to Manchester for an Etihad Stadium tour during its final day in England.

RU transfers to Scotland on March 13 for sightseeing in beautiful Edinburgh and a competition with Rangers F.C. The Scarlet Knights also head to Glasgow for a Scottish Premier League game at Celtic on the final day of the trip before heading back to the United States.
