Wave Blast Baltimore Saturday Night in Maryland

Fast-Paced, Professional Soccer Returns to Action in Milwaukee December 10th

March 2, 2024 – Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)Milwaukee Wave News Release

The 7-time champion Milwaukee Wave took to the east coast Saturday evening to face their biggest rival, the Baltimore Blast; and they dominated them the entire game.

Final Score: Milwaukee Wave 7, Baltimore Blast 1.

“Got to give full credit to the players,” said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. “Their preparation this week was fantastic. Love they way they came out with a good start to the game. They got the lead, secured it; played great defense and capitalized on all of their opportunities. Solid win tonight!”

Speaking of defense, the man of the match was Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper William Banahene. Despite being listed on the pregame injury report as questionable with hip soreness; Banahene only allowed 1 goal and had 15 saves on the night.

That hip injury would later catch up with him (Banahene) after making a spectacular save and landing on his right hip with about 5 minutes left in the third. William mustered through the pain the remainder of the quarter only to be injured immediately in the 4th quarter after making another spectacular save and landing on his right hip again. Cue backup goalkeeper Augie Rey.

“I though Willie’s shot stopping was phenomenal,” exclaimed Oliviero. “Then Augie comes in and makes a few huge saves to hold Baltimore at one; really great job by the goalkeepers. As far as Willie healing up, he’s got four to five days to get himself ready for two big games next week.”

The Milwaukee Wave return home for a pair of games on the legendary black turf at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena; Friday, March 8, 6:35pm against Utica City FC, who sits in second place in the MASL East Division and then Sunday, March 10 at 1:05pm against the St. Louis Ambush who are out of playoff contention.

“It’s great to go on the road and get a win against a very hot Baltimore team,” added Oliviero. “But after three consecutive weeks away we are excited to return home and play in front of our fans. Friday is going to be a tough game against Utica and trying to catch them in the standings and then Sunday against St. Louis; while we own the season series against them, we know they would love nothing more than to pull off an upset. We won’t let that happen.”
