FOXBOROUGH, Mass – The New England Revolution open the home portion of their 2024 Major League Soccer schedule on Sunday afternoon, when the club welcomes Toronto FC to Gillette Stadium for a 2:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Sunday’s MLS home opener is available to watch on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish. The match also airs on the radio via 98.5 The Sports Hub HD2 and SiriusXM FC (Ch. 157), with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies on the call, and 1260 AM “Nossa Radio USA” in Portuguese.
New England enters the contest with a five-match unbeaten streak against Toronto FC, collecting a 3-0-2 record against the Reds since 2021. New England swept the season series with Toronto in 2023, outscoring their northern neighbors by a 4-1 margin. New England leads the all-time series, 16-10-13, including an 11-4-6 home record at Gillette Stadium. Revolution Head Coach Caleb Porter, set to manage his first MLS match in front of the home fans in Foxborough, owns a 3-1-0 record in his last four meetings with Toronto. On the opposite bench, Toronto FC also features a new head coach in John Herdman, who managed the Canada Men’s National Team during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM.
Revolution midfielder Carles Gil, who opened his 2024 account in last weekend’s season opener at D.C. United and added a game-winning assist in Thursday night’s Concacaf Champions Cup win vs. CA Independiente, leads New England with a team-best three goals and two assists in seven career games against the Reds. Gil combined with his younger brother, Nacho Gil, for the winning goal on Thursday, the latter’s first goal with New England.
Forward Giacomo Vrioni contributed his second assist of the Champions Cup tournament in the win, though the Revolution will have to look elsewhere for scoring on Sunday, with Vrioni suspended for the game due to an ejection in the season’s first league match. New England may not need to look any farther than winger Tomás Chancalay, who has two goals through three games in 2024. Toronto native Mark-Anthony Kaye, who spent parts of 2022 and 2023 with TFC, also found the scoresheet in the Leg 2 victory with his first tally as a member of the Revolution. Kaye has been capped 42 times by the Canada Men’s National Team, including at the 2022 FIFA World Cup under Herdman.
