HOUSTON – U.S. Soccer announced the format for the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup earlier today and Houston Dynamo FC is one of eight MLS teams to compete in this edition of the tournament.

The Dynamo are the defending champions and the only MLS team that will compete in the Open Cup, Concacaf Champions Cup, Leagues Cup and MLS regular season. Houston received an exemption to defend its title as part of the new selection process that determined which MLS teams would compete in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Teams were selected based on their finish in the 2023 Supporters’ Shield Standings. The top seven teams, excluding teams currently competing in the Concacaf Champions Cup, will join the tournament in the Round of 32.

Additionally, 11 teams from MLS NEXT Pro will join the competition and they were determined based on the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro final standings. Teams were not selected if their MLS affiliate was selected to participate in the competition.

Additional information about tickets, the Round of 32 schedule and opponents will be available in the coming weeks. For updates, visit HoustonDynamoFC.com.
