Conor Gallagher is determined to fight for his long-term future at Chelsea with talks over a new contract at an impasse.

Sources close to the matter have told Mail Sport that there has been ‘no significant progress’ on discussions over an extension.

Tottenham and other rival Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation closely with a view to launching a summer move for the England international.

But Gallagher, who was raised as a Chelsea supporter, is still to seriously contemplate a move away from Stamford Bridge and is prioritising staying.

Chelsea are currently reluctant to break their unofficial £150,000-per-week pay ceiling for Gallagher, who is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

Gallagher will be one of the favourites to be named Chelsea’s player of the year this season, making the prospect of selling the midfielder this summer particularly peculiar.

Chelsea are believed to be under pressure to sell players this summer in order to stay the right side of profit and sustainability rules (PSR) – though the club are adamant that isn’t an issue.

The fact Gallagher is worth pure profit on the PSR balance sheet because he was brought through the Chelsea academy is an intriguing factor with regards to how Chelsea view his future.

Even with just a year left on his deal, Chelsea will want a minimum of £50million for Gallagher if they were to sell.

But it remains to be seen whether clubs meet that valuation for a player who could be signed on a free transfer next year.

Chelsea will believe they can secure the size of fee they are looking for having sold Mason Mount, who also has 12 months left on his deal, to Manchester United for a fee of up to £60million last summer.

Armando Broja’s stalled start at Fulham since joining on loan in January, is also raising financial concerns at Chelsea.
