Tun Joins Men's Soccer As Assistant Coach

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s soccer program and head coach Trevor Gorman have announced the addition of Mark Tun as assistant coach.

“I’m excited to welcome Mark Tun to UAlbany,” said Gorman.  “He’s a successful, up-and-coming coach with experience at many levels.  He will work tirelessly to help this program compete at a championship level year-in and year-out.”

Tun joins UAlbany after spending the 2023 season as head coach of the men’s soccer program at NAIA Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois.  In his one season at the helm, the Tigers went 12-4-3 overall, including 8-1-2 against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents, and won their third-straight CCAC title. At the same time he took over the head job at Olivet Nazarene, he also began a stint at Chicago Empire South, overseeing the players’ training curriculum.

Tun spent the 2022 season as Olivet Nazarene’s first assistant, head recruiting coordinator, director of operations, and, later, interim head coach.  The Tigers went 16-2-3 and won their second-straight CCAC title.

Tun’s collegiate coaching career began in 2018 at Benedictine University in Illinois, where he spent four seasons as the team’s first assistant, specializing in goalkeeping, director of operations, and recruiting coordinator.  He spent his final season as the team’s interim head coach in 2021.  Beginning in 2020, Tun joined the Roadrunners Soccer Club as an assistant coach working with goalkeepers and developing training curricula.

Tun earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Sports Studies in 2018 from Benedictine, and is currently earning his Master’s degree in organizational leadership from Olivet Nazarene.  As a member of the Benedictine men’s soccer program during his undergraduate career, Tun helped the Eagles to a 50-28-4 record in four seasons, including an NACC title and NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2016.

Tun holds a USSF D Coaching License, an FA Level One Coaching Badge, and an FA Level One Talent Identification certification.
