Barcelona‘s battle against their ongoing financial crisis has hit another bump in the road, after LaLiga reportedly decreased their salary cap by over £50million.

The reigning Spanish champions have been struggling against Javier Tebas’ financial restrictions for some time following a number of huge transfer deals and several years of mismanagement at the Nou Camp.

As a result, the club’s salary cap was slashed by almost 50 per cent for the start of the season – from £558m to £232m.

Marca have now reported that they have been hit with an even bigger challenge, with the cap reduced to £175m following the January transfer window.

This presents the Barcelona board a huge challenge in the summer, with the wage of the current squad claimed to be worth just over £342m.

So Barcelona will have to make room in their salary cap for players they wish to sign this summer, and clear room for already made signings such as Roque and Martinez.

Barcelona have the third highest salary cap in La Liga, though they are some £445m behind what biggest rivals Real Madrid are permitted in their salary cap (£620m).

They are also behind Atletico Madrid who have a salary cap of £260m. Barcelona are then followed by Sevilla, Real Sociedad and Villarreal – with Alaves, Las Palmas and Getafe having the lowest salary caps.
