Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are both interested in signing Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood this summer, according to reports.

Greenwood, 22, is currently on loan at Getafe after United offloaded the striker last summer, just seven months after attempted rape and assault charges against him were dropped.

He has started well at Getafe, scoring five goals and providing five assists in 21 LaLiga appearances, and he could be set to stay in Spain beyond this season.

According to German outlet Sport1 via Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and Atletico are preparing to battle for his signature in the coming months, and Mail Sport understands the latter club are following him particularly keenly.

United are ready to sell Greenwood, and have set an asking price of €40m (£34m) for interested suitors.

Greenwood’s Old Trafford contract runs until June 2025, with this summer representing United’s final opportunity to receive a sizeable fee for him.

Getafe would like to keep Greenwood on loan for another year, but cannot afford his £75,000-a-week salary. 

Since moving to Getafe, Greenwood has largely impressed on the pitch, and recently scored a penalty with his weaker right foot against Real Betis.

He was also hailed by fans as a ‘generational’ talent after starring in his side’s draw with Villarreal last Friday.

However, he was involved in a moment of controversy in a game against Real Madrid earlier this month when England star Jude Bellingham was alleged to have muttered a shocking insult in Greenwood’s direction.
