Luton Town vs Man Utd

Mason Mount

Manchester United will be looking to continue their resurgence on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town.

United’s meandering campaign was brought to life by their 3-2 comeback victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day, with Ten Hag’s side enjoying a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions to kick-off 2024.

Their new year upsurge has seen the Red Devils climb up to sixth in the Premier League table and within striking distance of the top four.

Luton, meanwhile, were enjoying an impressive run of form of their own before they were surprisingly beaten at home by Sheffield United last weekend. Still, Rob Edwards’ common sense approach has seen the Hatters punch above their weight during their maiden Premier League voyage. Luton enter Sunday’s game 17th in the table and with a genuine shot of survival.

Here’s 90min’s preview of Man Utd’s trip to Luton.

The hosts are without Marvelous Nakamba on Sunday, so the impressive midfield duo of Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ross Barkley will start in the middle of the park.

Edwards is without Tom Lockyer, while doubts remain over the statuses of Mads Juel Andersen, Fred Oneydinma and Daiki Hashioka.

Tahith Chong could return to the starting XI against his former club.

Luton predicted lineup vs Man Utd (3-4-3): Kaminski; Mengi, Osho, Bell; Ogbene, Lokonga, Barkley, Doughty; Clark, Adebayo, Chong.

Mason Mount

Ten Hag is unlikely to make many changes from last Sunday’s starting XI at Villa Park given his absentees.

The Dutchman will once again be without Anthony Martial, Lisandro Martinez and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Luke Shaw is a doubt with a muscle injury.

Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia are closing in on their respective returns, but neither player is expected to feature at Kenilworth Road.

Man Utd predicted lineup vs Luton (4-2-3-1): Onana; Dalot, Maguire, Varane, Shaw; Mainoo, Casemiro; Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford; Hojlund.
