Leesburg, VA. – Loudoun United FC today announced that the club has signed 2022 MLS SuperDraft pick Jacob Erlandson to a one-year contract with an option for the 2025 season, pending league and federation approval.
The Ohio-native was drafted 40th overall pick by Columbus Crew in the Second Round of the MLS SuperDraft. The defender spent the last two seasons competing with Columbus Crew 2 in the MLS Next Pro, playing 25 matches across all competitions.
“I had the pleasure of getting to know Jacob [Erlandson] as he entered the MLS Draft from Bowling Green State University,” said Head Coach Ryan Martin. “He is a very athletic center back that is good in the air and hard in the tackle. He controls the line well and is extremely competitive. He is a great fit for our culture and ambitions; and we are very excited to welcome him to Loudoun!”
Before his professional career, Erlandson was named to the All-MAC First team twice with Bowling Green State University. The defender played in 32 matches for the Falcons, recording nine goals and six assists. Erlandson was named BGSU’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2021.
Prior to BGSU, the six-foot-one-inch defender earned three letters at Huntington University. Erlandson totaled 21 goals (11 game-winners) and two assists in those three seasons with the Foresters. He was named to the All-league team in all three years and was an NAIA All-American in 2019.
Born in Akron, Ohio, Erlandson spent his youth years as a four-year letterwinner at Dayton Christian High School. He was named a two-time All-Ohio First-Team Selection who was also named an All-American as a senior.
