Chelsea are reportedly ready to pay as much as €100million for the potential transfer of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The Netherlands international is a top target for the Blues ahead of the summer, and it seems this is starting to cause major alarm bells at the Nou Camp, according to a report from Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes.
De Jong has been a key player for Barca in the last few years, and one imagines they would surely not want to lose someone who is so instrumental to the way they play their football.
An intelligent passer of the ball from deep, De Jong is almost the archetypal Barca midfield player, in a similar mould to club legends like Xavi and Pep Guardiola.
Chelsea would also surely do well to lure in a talent like De Jong if they could manage it, and it seems they’re prepared to pay big to make it happen.
CFC fans would probably welcome this change in approach, as the club have more recently taken the risky approach of investing huge amounts in less proven players, building around younger talents for a long-term project which is looking quite slow to get off the ground.
The addition of someone like De Jong could make a big difference to Mauricio Pochettino’s hopes of improving the side’s fortunes next term.
