Union Omaha Signs League One Veteran Luca Mastrantonio

February 6, 2024 – United Soccer League One (USL1)Union Omaha News Release

PAPILLION, Neb. – Union Omaha announced today the signing of Victor “PC” Giro pending league and federation approval. The 29-year-old midfielder has played in two USL Championship Finals in the last three seasons, captaining his San Antonio FC side to the Players’ Shield, Copa Tejas and playoff titles in 2022.

Giro, commonly referred to as “PC,” signed with San Antonio ahead of the 2020 season and went on to play over 6,000 minutes for the club. He regularly served as captain, leading by example mainly from defensive midfield. From 2017-2019, Giro played nearly 40 combined matches in Major League soccer – first with Orlando City SC and then Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He also brings his experience from a stint in the National American Soccer League, where he was named Young Player of the Year in 2015.

PC learned his craft in the prestigious academy of Brazilian giants Corinthians, where he was given his two-letter nickname based on his similarity to a veteran player with these initials. He spent three years in the Corinthians youth teams and one year on loan in the Portuguese first division before making his move to the U.S. at age 21.

“I’m delighted to have added a player of PC’s caliber and experience to our locker room,” said Union Omaha Head Coach Dominic Casciato. “He’s a proven winner and comes to us from one of the top clubs in the USL Championship. Having always been impressed with his competitive nature and leadership skills when playing against him, I’m excited to work with him and see how his personality and ability with and without the ball elevate our standards both on the field and in the locker room this season.”

“I’m happy to be here and excited to start the season,” said Giro. “I’ll give my best to help the team achieve our goals this season!”
