Athens, GA. – Memphis 901 FC used a quick goal from Nighte Pickering to open the 2024 preseason with a 1-1 draw with MLS side Atlanta United on Saturday at Turner Soccer Stadium.
Pickering’s first touch of the season rang true as the 19-year-old striker beat the keeper to give Memphis the lead in the third minute of play.
A pair of regular starters from the 2023 season created the scoring chance as Lucas Turci sliced through the Atlanta defense before finding Luiz Fernando, who left the ball for Pickering to strike at the goal.
The starters made way for a host of new signees at the half as Tulu and Abdoulaye Cissoko came on to hold the line against a desperate Atlanta attack. Atlanta was able to find an opening in the final minute of regulation to bring the score even.
Memphis 901 FC opens the 2024 regular season at AutoZone Park on March 9 as they host Las Vegas Lights FC. Season tickets are available now at www.memphis901fc.com.
