MARBELLA, SPAIN – Sounders FC faced Serbian side FK TSC Bačka Topola in a pair of 60-minute scrimmages Wednesday at the Marbella Football Center in Marbella, Spain. The Rave Green drew 1-1 in the opening 60 minutes with a goal from Georgi Minoungou, while Dylan Teves and Albert Rusnák found the net for a 2-1 win in the second scrimmage.
After giving up a goal in the opening minute of the first match, Seattle settled into a fast-paced back-and-forth affair with the Serbian side. Alex Roldan and Raúl Ruidíaz created some early chances for the Rave Green, both firing shots wide of the net. Seattle’s goal came in the 34th minute following a commotion in front of goal, with Minoungou getting the final touch with his head to beat Bačka Topola’s Veljko Ilic and level the score. Seattle created additional chances down the stretch, including a shot from Paul Rothrock at the top of the box in the 58th minute, but was unable to take the lead.
The second match featured a more controlled pace, with Seattle eventually breaking through in the 23rd minute when Léo Chú crossed to Teves right in front of goal for an easy finish. Bačka Topola equalized in the 44th minute courtesy of Nikola Kuveljic, before Chú once again crossed the ball inside the area, leading to a Morris dummy that found Rusnák for the game-winning finish.
Sounders FC continues its preseason training this week from Marbella, with two more friendlies in Spain scheduled against IFK Norrköping on February 4 (3:30 a.m. PT) and Odense BK on February 9 (4:00 a.m. PT). The club then returns to the Pacific Northwest for its last week of preseason, hosting one more friendly against Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, February 17 (10:00 a.m. PT). Seattle kicks off its 2024 MLS campaign on the road against LAFC at BMO Stadium on Saturday, February 24 (1:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, FOX, iHeartMedia Seattle, El Rey 1360 AM).
