ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City SC has loaned forward Gastón González to Nacional of the Uruguayan Primera División on a one-year loan with an option to buy, it was announced today.

“This loan is a great opportunity for Gastón to find his game again and reenergize himself,” said Orlando City EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “He’ll have the opportunity to play in Copa Libertadores for the first time and an opportunity to get competitive minutes.”

The 22-year-old featured 21 times for the Lions in 2023 across all competitions, making eight starts and providing two assists. Prior to arriving in the City Beautiful, the winger made 58 appearances across all competitions for Unión de Santa Fe in Argentina, including appearances in the Copa Sudamericana and Copa Diego Armando Maradona, scored eight goals and added seven assists in those matches.

Based out of the Uruguayan capital, Nacional has won the Primera División 49 times, including most recently in 2022 and has won the Copa Libertadores three times previously totaling 618 points in South America’s top club competition all-time.

Notably, González will join the 49-time Uruguayan champions and reunite with former Lions’ captain Mauricio Pereyra in their pursuit for their 50th Primera División title.
