Kansas City Current’s Inaugural Match at CPKC Stadium Set for March 16 against Portland Thorns FC on ABC

KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City Current, in conjunction with the National Women’s Soccer League, have announced the full schedule for the 2024 regular season. CPKC Stadium, the first in the world purpose-built for women’s professional sports, will host the NWSL regular season opener Saturday, March 16. ABC’s national broadcast coverage of the historic match will begin at 11:30 a.m. CT with a 30-minute pregame show followed by the live presentation of the regular-season opener between Kansas City Current and Portland Thorns FC at 12 p.m. CT.


This is the second straight year these two teams will open the regular season and the third time in the last four matches between the Current and Thorns that will be on national network television. The historic match will also serve as the grand opening for Kansas City’s CPKC Stadium. With season tickets being sold out for 2024, the club expects the opening match to be rocking with a sold-out, standing room only crowd.

A limited number of single-game tickets for 2024 regular season matches will go on sale to Current Club members the week of February 5. Current Club members get priority access to 2024 single match tickets and allows fans to add their names to the wait list for future season ticket availability.

The 2024 season also features two expansion teams, with the Utah Royals returning to the NWSL alongside Bay FC. CPKC Stadium will host Bay FC visit April 20 while the Royals will make their first visit September 7. Other notable games at home will include the 2023 Challenge Cup Champion North Carolina Courage visit May 12 and the 2023 NWSL Champion NJ/NY Gotham FC come to town September 28.

The NWSL will take a break from regular season play during the 2024 Olympic Games. Kansas City will head into the break with a home game against the Orlando Pride on July 6 and return to regular season play August 25 at the Washington Spirit. The Current will then close out the season at the Chicago Red Stars November 3.

As part of the league’s expanded postseason format, eight clubs will qualify for the quarterfinal round taking place the weekend of November 9-10. The semifinal round kicks off the weekend of November 16-17 ahead of the NWSL Championship on November 23.
