Newcastle have rejected an initial approach from Bayern Munich for defender Kieran Trippier

  • Newcastle have already rejected an initial approach from the Bavarian giants
  • Magpies will resist any offers for the defender unless it’s too good to turn down
  • Ivan Toney is ambitious and wants to win titles… you can’t begrudge him that! It’s All Kicking Off

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier has returned from a break in New York and hopes to seal his move to Bayern Munich.

Mail Sport understands the England star is keen to join up with his former Tottenham team-mates Harry Kane and Eric Dier in Bavaria and has spoken to the Bundesliga giants.

However, Newcastle have rejected an initial approach from Bayern and the word from inside St James’ Park is that he is not for sale, unless the money on the table is too good to turn down.

That would have to be a sizeable sum beyond the market value for a 33-year-old with 18 months to run on his contract.

Sources say Trippier is not trying to ‘force’ an exit and is very happy playing under Eddie Howe and has loved his time at the club.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel stated his intention to sign a right back earlier this month

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel stated his intention to sign a right back earlier this month

His holiday and return from New York were scheduled before a return to training on Monday.

Newcastle have no desire to let Trippier go and Howe sees him as central to his plans in the second half of the season, especially amid the squad’s current injury crisis.

But given the player’s openness to the transfer and Bayern’s determination to sign him, the situation could move quickly in the coming days.

The German club are aware that Newcastle are at their financial fair play limit and are seeking to take advantage.

We are also told that talk of Newcastle being interested in Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich is not the case.
