Chicago Fire Defeats Loudoun United FC 5-1 in Opening Preseason Match

CHICAGO – Chicago Fire FC defeated Loudoun United FC 5-1 in their first preseason match of the 2024 campaign at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla earlier today.

The Fire got off to a quick start in the match, scoring three goals in the first thirty minutes. Xherdan Shaqiri set the tone with the opening goal in the third minute, followed by goals from Georgios Koutsias (16th minute), Fabian Herbers (28th minute) and Kacper Przybyłko (69th minute). Loudoun pulled one back in the second half, but Fire 2024 draftee Laurence Wootton sealed the scoreline with the team’s fifth goal in the 90th minute.


The Fire are currently training in Bradenton, Fla., and will close out their first leg of preseason with a match against the New York Red Bulls at 9:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 27, before returning to Chicago. The second half of preseason training will take place in California from Feb. 5-17 during which the Fire will participate in the Coachella Valley Invitational, facing off against Austin FC, LAFC, Minnesota United FC, and the Portland Timbers (tickets).
