SEATTLE – Washington men’s soccer head coach Jamie Clark announces the addition of a pair of transfers to the 2024 roster in Caden Buckley (Santa Clara) and Rhys Gourdie (San Diego).
 
“Rhys and Caden have been two of the best players in the West Coast Conference over the past few seasons,” Clark said. “They have both won conference titles so understand winning and will also bring a lot of great big game experience. We are excited to bring them both to Seattle for their final season of college soccer. We share the same goal and will be working to win our first Big Ten title.”
 
CADEN BUCKLEY

Caden Buckley comes to Washington from Santa Clara where he played four seasons with the Broncos. In 2023, he was named First Team All-WCC after appearing in all 16 matches and leading the team with 1,351 minutes. Buckley tallied nine points on a career-high four goals and an assist. As a junior he was named WCC Honorable Mention while starting in 13 matches and recorded a pair of assists. He was named to the WCC All-Freshman team in 2020 where he was second on the team in goals and led the team with a .714 shot-on-goal percentage.
 
Out of high school, Buckley was named the 2019-20 Nevada Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year. He was also one of 250 high school juniors selected to the first-ever Allstate All-America soccer program and played in the 2019 High School All-American game in Orlando. Buckley led Bishop Gorman to a state championship during his senior season.
 
He will join the Huskies during the Winter quarter.
 
COACH CLARK ON CADEN
Caden is an athletic and tough midfielder who connects the game well and does the hard work so his team can succeed. He’s a selfless player who will have a big impact at UW. 
 
RHYS GOURDIE

Brecken Bowers makes his way to UW from San Diego. Last season, Gourdie was named Second Team All-WCC after recording 1500 minutes with a pair of goals and an assist. He played 90 or more minutes in 10 matches. Gourdie was also named Second Team All-WCC in 2022 after starting in all 19 matches when he finshed second on the team and third in the West Coast Conference with 49 shots (15 on goal).
