The 2024 USL Championship season is upon us – almost. As Republic FC prepares for its 11th campaign, the club has announced this year’s preseason slate, kicking off with the first day of training camp on January 24. From MLS to USL Championship and more, here’s who the Indomitable Club will meet up with to ensure it’s ready for the season opener on March 9.
San Jose Earthquakes – Feb. 2
Just a short road trip away, the Quakes are a familiar preseason foe for Sacramento. In competitive play, the two most recently faced off in the 2022 U.S. Open Cup Round of 16, with Republic FC taking a 2-0 victory at Heart Health Park. San Jose will be a few weeks into its training camp and getting their match fitness close to a full 90 in anticipation of a season kickoff on February 24.
Desert Friendlies (Hosted by FC Tucson) – Feb. 8-14
For a second straight season, Republic FC is heading to Arizona to take advantage of the warmer weather and a full slate of closed-door friendlies. The club will play against two USL Championship teams – Colorado Switchbacks FC on February 8 and Louisville City FC on February 11.
Seattle Sounders – Feb. 17
From the desert to the Pacific Northwest, Mark Briggs’ squad will head straight to Washington to face MLS side Seattle Sounders FC. With both clubs midway through their respective preseasons, the matchup will give both coaches the opportunity to see the stages of development their squads are at.
Central Valley Fuego – Feb. 21
USL League One side Central Valley Fuego FC will make the trip up Highway 99 for a friendly to continue to build fitness and form. Former USMNT Midfielder Jermaine Jones takes the reigns for the Central Valley club as they begin to prepare for a new season format, including the first-ever USL League 1 in-season tournament.
Oakland Roots SC – Feb. 24
In a preview of one of the biggest derbies on the slate for 2024, regional rival Oakland will make its first trip to Sacramento on February 24. Ahead of last season, Republic FC took a 2-1 victory over Roots before taking all six points in the season series.
