Jaskaniec drafted to Utah Royals

MADISON, Wis. – Emma Jaskaniec of women’s soccer was selected 26th overall in Friday’s NWSL draft by the Utah Royals.

Jaskaniec, a midfielder, becomes the eighth Badger in program history to be drafted to play professionally.

Named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year in 2022, Jaskaniec displayed leadership on the pitch for five seasons. She amassed 37 goals and 16 assists in 91 appearances, earning 88 starts. During her final season as a Badger, Jaskaniec notched a career-high 12 goals, including five game-winners.

Jaskaniec joins the list of Badgers to play professionally, which includes Cara Walls (1986), Michelle Dalton (2015), Rose Lavelle (2017), Camryn Biegalski (2020), Victoria Pickett (2021), Jordyn Bloomer (2022), and Natalie Viggiano (2023).

The Utah Royals are returning to the NWSL after taking a four-season hiatus. The club had its first season in 2018, then folded in 2020, but was reinstated by the owners of MLS club Real Salt Lake.
