FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution II have signed defender Colby Quiñones and midfielder Maciel to MLS NEXT Pro professional contracts ahead of the 2024 season.
A native of Bedford, New Hampshire, Quiñones was the first Revolution Academy product to feature with New England’s second team in its inaugural 2020 season. Quiñones, who signed with Revolution II in November 2020, owns a program-record 75 appearances. The 20-year-old defender has recorded 45 starts and over 4,400 minutes played with Revolution II. Quiñones joined the Revolution Academy in 2017 and was one of the first four members of the Academy’s residency program that started in 2019.
In the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro campaign, Quiñones logged a career-high 19 starts to help guide New England to its best season in team history. Revolution II collected a team-record 14 wins during the regular season en route to an appearance in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Final in the program’s first-ever postseason bid. On the international level, Quiñones has earned several call-ups to the Puerto Rico Senior Men’s National Team, most recently appearing in the CONCACAF Nations League Tournament.
Maciel rejoins New England after signing with Revolution II in 2020, when he logged over 1,400 minutes as the lone member of the team to start all 16 matches in the squad’s inaugural season. The midfielder signed a first-team contract on March 22, 2021, and has recorded 35 appearances, including 22 starts, in two MLS seasons.
The Brazilian made his first appearance of the 2023 season with Revolution II on September 17 after recovering from a season-ending Achilles injury sustained in 2022. Maciel went on to make two postseason appearances with Revolution II, logging 15 minutes in the team’s quarterfinal win and a 45-minute start in the conference final.
