Timbers Acquire Defender Kamal Miller from Inter Miami CF

Timbers Fall Short to LAFC with 3-2 Road Result

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers have acquired Canadian defender Kamal Miller from Inter Miami CF in exchange for $500,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money (GAM), $125,000 in 2025 GAM and a 2024 international roster spot, the club announced today. Portland could send up to $150,000 GAM if Miller achieves certain performance metrics. Additionally, Miami will receive a percentage of any future transfers of Miller outside of MLS. Miller will be under contract with the club through 2026 with a club option in 2027 and will occupy an international spot on the roster.

Kamal provides us a great player, competitor, and flexibility along our backline. We look forward to him joining our group as our preseason work gets underway.”

Miller, 26, has spent the past five seasons playing in MLS for Orlando City SC, CF Montreal, and Inter Miami CF. In 110 regular season appearances (102 starts), the defender has registered three goals and six assists through five seasons since 2019. Acquired by Miami in 2023, the defender tallied 22 appearances (21 starts) and helped Miami to win the 2023 Leagues Cup. Notably, Miller was also part of CF Montreal’s 2022 Eastern Conference semifinal run and was a 2022 MLS All-Star.

Internationally, Miller has made 41 appearances (37 starts) for the Canadian Men’s National Team, tallying three assists. Most recently, Miller logged two full 90-minute appearances in the Concacaf Nations League Finals against Jamaica in November of 2023. Notably, Miller was part of Canada’s 2022 FIFA World Cup roster, starting in all three of Canada’s group stage matches. He was a part of Canada’s second all-time World Cup appearance in 2022, helping the team qualify with 12 appearances in 14 Concacaf qualifying matches. Miller has been a part of Canada’s U-16, U-20 and U-23 teams before making his senior debut in 2019.
