Chattanooga Red Wolves Sign Homegrown Talent Yahir Paez to Professional Contract

Midfield standout Jonny Filipe will return to the Chattanooga Red Wolves for his first full season, pending league and federation approval.

The attacking center midfielder joined the Chattanooga Red Wolves after being acquired on loan from USL Championship side Hartford Athletic in July of 2023.


Filipe ended the 2023 season with 6 assists in just 13 matches, bringing his assists per game to .46 which led all of USL League One. Filipe also notched two goals, 976 minutes recorded from 13 appearances, 11 starts, and a 72.9% passing rate with 240 successful passes and six assists. Filipe’s two goals on the season, came on September 23rd against Lexington SC and October 7th against Greenville Triumph SC.

He earned USL League One Player of the Week after contributing one goal and two assists against Lexington SC in the 5-3 Red Wolves win in Week 28. He was also named as the Timber Craft Whiskey Man of the Match on Saturday, October 7th against Greenville Triumph SC which ended in a 2-2 draw.

“A massive contributor when he came in on loan, he was a must to sign on a permanent basis,” said head coach, Scott Mackenzie. “I expect we have only scratched the service of what Jonny can do for the Chattanooga Red Wolves. His impact on performance was clear to see. He is an extremely talented young player with a bright future and I am glad myself and the Chattanooga Red Wolves are part of it.”

When asked about his return to the club, Filipe said, “I am really looking forward to this upcoming season and hopefully pushing to make the playoffs this year. I’m extremely excited to return to The Den and have a full season with all of the amazing and supportive fans.”

The Chattanooga Red Wolves will begin their 2024 season on the road against Lexington SC on Saturday, March 15th before returning to CHI Memorial Stadium for their home opener on Saturday, March 30th. Season tickets are available to purchase online.
