FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have re-signed midfielder Emmanuel Boateng to a one-year contract for the 2024 Major League Soccer season with an additional one-year club option for 2025. Boateng returns to New England for his fourth season with the Revolution and will occupy a supplemental roster slot.

“Ema Boateng has been an important contributor to our attack and has been a productive player in our league throughout his entire career,” Revolution Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said. “We are pleased to have Ema return to the club and look forward to seeing him on the field with the rest of the team as we get preseason training underway this month.”

Since arriving in New England as a free agent in 2021, Boateng has collected six goals and 10 assists over 66 MLS appearances, 28 of which were starts, in a Revolution uniform. Last season, he collected 27 MLS appearances with two goals and three assists, helping New England reach the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs. The Ghanaian midfielder, who turns 30 this month, also played in 27 matches in 2022, one year after serving an integral role in the 2021 Supporters’ Shield campaign, notching two goals and four assists en route to an MLS-record 73 regular season points, with one additional helper in the playoffs.

Prior to joining the Revolution, Boateng played under New England’s new head coach, Caleb Porter, with the Columbus Crew, making 10 appearances and two more in the playoffs to help the club win the MLS Cup title.

“Ema is a seasoned veteran in Major League Soccer with a successful track record of delivering for his teams in key moments, including the last three years with the Revolution,” Head Coach Caleb Porter said. “I know Ema well from our time in Columbus, where we won an MLS Cup together, and from many years coaching against him, so I am excited to see him remain with the Revolution and look forward to working with him again in New England when we hit the field in just under two weeks.”

Over his eight previous MLS seasons, Boateng has recorded 187 regular season appearances, 96 starts, 15 goals and 24 assists. In the MLS Cup Playoffs, he has added nine games played and two starts, with two goals and one assist.
