MESQUITE, Texas – The Texas Outlaws had a Texas Size showing and performance on Saturday as they came out victorious (12-4) against interstate rivals, The Dallas Sidekicks, in the match known as “The Texas Showdown” at the Mesquite Arena in front of over 2,000 fans.
The highly anticipated match was nothing short of exciting. “The crowd was electric, and the Outlaws played a great game,” said Clint Schroeder, one of the fans in attendance at the match, “…from the opening kick-off featuring Victor Ulloa, fan engagement, sponsorship activations, Santa signing autographs, to the play on the field, this was a showdown to remember, especially two days before Christmas.”
Earlier in the season, the Sidekicks celebrated a victory over the Outlaws (8-7 OT) in Dallas’ home opener at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas.
“We are incredibly grateful to the over two thousand fans who attended the match, our fantastic sponsors, community stakeholders, and everyone who came out to support this rivalry match,” said Texas Outlaws GM Brad Namdar, “We are thankful for the tremendous community support and for having a great fan turnout. The overall success of the evening was an early Christmas present for everyone in our Outlaws family.”
Victor Ulloa, former midfielder for FC Dallas, current Inter Miami CF, and teammate of Lionel Messi had the honor of kicking off the match with the ceremonial opening kick. “It was a great environment,” said Ulloa, “It was an honor to be invited, and I cannot wait to go to another game.”
The Outlaws lead the Texas Showdown rivalry with 4 points to the Sidekicks 2 through the first two games. The Outlaws lead in goals scored with 19 to the Sidekicks 12.
The overall point winner from all the Outlaws vs. Sidekicks matches will be the Champions of the Texas Showdown series at the end of the season.
“We are working with the Sidekicks, the league, and others for what the prize will be for the Champions at the end of the season,” said Namdar, “But I am confident it will be something special.”
The Texas Outlaws look forward to continuing their current winning streak this upcoming Saturday, December 30th vs. the Milwaukee Wave at the Mesquite Arena. Kick off for the game is at 7:05 pm CT.
