Atlético Ottawa Midfielder Ollie Bassett Named to 2023 CPL Best XI Fuelled by Gatorade

OTTAWA, ON – Atlético Ottawa’s Ollie Bassett was today named to the 2023 Canadian Premier League (CPL) Best XI Fuelled by Gatorade following his second exemplary season in the nation’s capital, which culminated in a Golden Boot Award for the British midfielder this past October.

Bassett scored 11 goals during the 2023 regular season, tying Cavalry FC striker Myer Bevan in the hunt for the Golden Boot, whilst also registering three assists along the way. Winner of the CPL’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year Awards in 2022, Bassett’s strong form continued in 2023 in front of Atlético Ottawa’s devoted fanbase at TD Place Stadium, living up to the “Olliewood” nickname that was bestowed on him following his arrival in Ottawa in January 2022.

The 2023 CPL Best XI recognizes the league’s top players at each position through this year’s entire season, culminating in the 2023 CPL Final.

“I am honoured to be named to the 2023 CPL Best XI,” said Bassett. “Every season I commit to being the best version of myself in support of my team and our fans. To be recognized for that hard work is not something I take for granted, and I am grateful to be included alongside some of the best players in our league.”

Bassett joins goalkeeper Triston Henry (Forge FC); defenders Manjrekar James (Forge), Daan Klomp (Cavalry FC) and Daniel Nimick (Halifax Wanderers FC); midfielders Manny Aparicio (Pacific FC), Kyle Bekker (Forge) and Lorenzo Callegari (Halifax Wanderers); and forwards Beni Badibanga (Forge), Terran Campbell (Forge) and Ali Musse (Cavalry) in this year’s CPL Best XI Fuelled by Gatorade.
