EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men’s soccer player Jonathan Stout was named to the 2023 Academic All-America® men’s soccer third team, as selected by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.
The midfielder is the first Spartan to capture Academic All-American honors since 2016. In that season, Brad Centala was named to the second team and Andrew Herr captured third-team accolades.
Stout, a native of Wyoming, Michigan, earned his first all-region accolades after also capturing first-team All-Big Ten honors earlier this season. The sophomore midfielder was second on the team in scoring with five goals for 10 points, including one game-winning goal. He was the first player to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors since Jack Beck and Farai Mutatu in 2021.
He also earned his first Academic All-District honors, joining Greyson Mercer, Jeremy Sharp and Jake Spadafora. Stout has a 3.94 GPA in statistics.
Michigan State finished the season with a 7-2-7 record, including a road win over Notre Dame, who advanced to the NCAA College Cup.
