Four Panthers Named to Top Drawer Soccer Top-100 Post-Season List


PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team saw four Panthers named to the TopDrawerSoccer Top-100 Post-Season Lists with Landy Mertz and Sarah Schupansky on the Top-100 Players List and Deborah Abiodun and Lainie Fuchs on the Top-100 Freshmen List.

Schupansky landed at No. 13 while forward Mertz came in at No. 47 on the ranking list. Schupansky comes in as the highest ranked Panther on the postseason list in program history.

As the first ever Panther to be named to the All-ACC First Team, Schupansky was able to make her name known this season. The Pittsburgh, PA native started in 22 games out of the record 24 games played this season – totaling 1633 minutes. She now has her name on the single season points record after posting 11 goals and 14 assists on the season. The Junior adds this accolade next to TopDrawerSoccer Best XI Second Team honors, United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second Team honors, College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team honors, and United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America honors.

Mertz finds herself ranked at No. 47 after an impressive 2023 season. The fifth year has her name on the single-season assists record after posting 14 assists on the season. The Pittsburgh, PA native posted three assists and a goal in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament against Ohio State to help the Panthers propel past the Buckeyes and into the Second Round. This honor gets added next to a number of accolades from this record-breaking season including United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Third Team honors, and All-ACC Third Team honors. 

As for the freshmen, Abiodun landed at No. 16 with defender Fuchs coming in at No. 66 on the freshmen Top-100 rankings.

The Oyo, Nigeria native made an impact coming out of the gate. Abiodun started in 19 games out of 24 played this season – registering 1424 total minutes played. She recorded 15 points off of six goals and three assists – including the game winning goals against Ohio State in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The freshman adds this honor to her career resume next to All-ACC Third Team and Freshmen Team, United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Team and TopDrawerSoccer Best XI Second Freshmen Team.
