CHICAGO – Free-agent midfielder, Cari Roccaro, signed with the Chicago Red Stars, the club announced today. After spending the 2023 season with the Red Stars, Roccaro rejoins the club on a two-year contract that runs through the 2025 season.

Roccaro joined the Red Stars during the 2023 preseason as a free agent, bringing a needed veteran presence to the team’s midfield. This season, Roccaro led the club in starts after playing and starting in 25 matches out of a possible 28 across the Challenge Cup and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) regular season. The midfielder also led the team in passing percentage completing 83.6% of her passes.

Back in June, the Red Stars traveled to New Jersey to take on Gotham FC in the teams’ second meeting of the season. In the second half of that match, Chicago found themselves down 1-0, but after a weather delay, the team came out of the locker room ready to strike back. In the 54th minute, forward Sarah Griffith received a pass that took her behind Gotham’s back line. Griffith attempted a cross that was blocked, but rebounded back to the forward who then took a touch past the defender, picked her head up and sent a low cross to the middle of the 18-yard box that found a charging Cari Roccaro who delivered a perfectly placed shot to the back of the net.

On June 10, the Chicago Red Stars held a celebration for Roccaro for making her 100th NWSL regular-season appearance May 27 against the Orlando Pride.

Prior to joining the Red Stars Roccaro played for Angel City FC and was their second-highest goal scorer with four goals. Throughout her career, Roccaro also made stops in Houston and North Carolina, where the midfielder won back-to-back NWSL titles.
